Biografija predavača

Jorge Antonio Leoni de León (antonio.leoni@ucr.ac.cr), PhD, University of Geneva, is affiliated with the University of Costa Rica, where he is professor of Computational Linguistics and director of the Institute of Linguistic Research. His scientific interest lies on formal and computational linguistics with a strong lexical basis.

Idioms with clitics: examples from the Spanish in Costa Rica

Abstract: In this research we describe the phenomenon of direct object clitic pronouns in the idioms of Costa Rican Spanish, leaving aside the constructions where the pronoun "se" intervenes obligatorily, since it introduces a particular grammatical complexity. Furthermore, contrary to the pronoun "se", direct object clitics tend to retain their referentiality in phraseological units, which we can consider as a separate category.  We classify the studied idioms in the following two subcategories: 1) de-anaforized idioms and 2) pseudo-copulative clitic idioms. After analyzing its syntactic behavior, we approach the most appropriate lexicographic description and, even though it does not pose problems, it does leave open questions, such as the restrictions of those expressions, and the way that the context in which they occur must be taken into account and how we must include it in the definition.
